A 22-year-old top-class prospect who is challenged every season… A coming-of-age film that has just begun, an ending that fans are curious about

Hyundai Engineering & Construction Jeong Ji-yoon (22) is a valuable asset not only to the team but also to Korean women’s volleyball. From her debut season until now, she has shown remarkable growth every season. Fans, as well as leaders who teach him, support Jung Ji-yoon, seeing his passion for volleyball, his extraordinary fighting spirit, and his willingness to learn.

When he first came to Hyundai E&C, he played the middle blocker position. He scored 210 points in 29 games in the 2018-19 season and was awarded Rookie of the Year. Afterwards, until the 2020-21 season, he garnered attention for his explosive attack power, going back and forth as a middle blocker, sometimes as an apogee spiker, and as an outside heater. He played all 30 games in the 2020-21 season and set a career high of 397 points.

Afterwards, Jung Ji-yoon took on a new challenge. It was to convert his position as an outside heater. Of course, he had played the outside heater position before, but he had never played a full season. However, looking at the next 10 years, I thought that if Jung Ji-yoon settled down as an outside heater, it would be a great help to not only Hyundai E&C but also the national team.

At first, I was very worried. Although his number of attempts was small, Jeong Ji-yoon’s receiving efficiency was not very high. It was only 26% (11/41) in the 2018-2019 season, 23% (3/13) in the 2019-2020 season, and 20% (2/10) in the 2020-2021 season.

However, he is an indomitable Jung Ji-yoon who has the will to take on challenges and eventually succeeds if he tries once. ‘Volleyball Empress’ Kim Yeon-kyung also said to Kang Seong-hyung, director of Hyundai E&C, “Please raise me as an outside heater for the development of Korean volleyball,” and to Jung Ji-yoon, “I have very good physical conditions. He has the jump, the RBI, and the power.”

Last season, Jung Ji-yoon played 스포츠토토 a big role as a super joker. Manager Kang Seong-hyeong did not put Jeong Ji-yoon in the middle blocker and apposite spiker positions. He was only put in the outside heater spot. Although he was mainly a substitute, he appeared in 30 games and scored 237 points and had an offensive success rate of 32.55%. His receiving efficiency was also 26.41% (117/390), which was decent for his first challenge.

We are taking more chances this season. Even though it ended early due to Corona 19, he played 94 sets in 30 matches last season, and is already digesting 24 matches-82 sets this season. His record is also 208 points and an attack success rate of 38.40%. In particular, the receive efficiency is over 30%, showing growth than before.

Last season, he didn’t make a single start. However, this season, he was named in the starting lineup 6 times, and he plays 120% of his role as a super joker when Go Ye-rim and Hwang Min-kyung’s attacks do not explode. His opponent’s target other serve is also holding up well.

It is not only the outside heater position, but there is no problem with the position that has already been recognized. Of course, there was no training, so the commander’s eyes saw limitations, but in the road construction match on the 24th, Jung Ji-yoon participated as an apositive spiker due to team circumstances and played a big role. With Yasmin Bedart (registered name: Yasmin) missing due to an injury and Hwang Yeon-joo and Na Hyun-soo all performing sluggishly, coach Kang Seong-hyeong had no choice but to put Jeong Ji-yoon in as an apogee from the third set. Jeong Ji-yoon recorded 16 points and an attack success rate of 42% that day. It has been a long time since I scored a certain point in the position of an aposite, and Hyundai E&C was also able to avoid a shutout loss.

Director Kang Seong-hyung said, “I put Ji-yoon in the position of apogee to find a breakthrough. However, it is true that I have reached the limit because I did not do apositive training.” Regarding the possibility of simultaneous use of the three positions of middle blocker, outside heater, and apposite spiker, “Jiyoon’s strength is hitting. However, in the case of apositive, it is difficult because the swing itself is different from the outside heater. Road construction was also inevitable. In the case of a middle blocker, I hadn’t thought about it because the two players were in place,” he laughed.

It is expected that we will soon be able to see the steady appearance of the starting lineup. “I still have a burden on myself. However, there are more than 10 games left in the regular season. Opportunities will be given,” explains director Kang Seong-hyung.

For Jung Ji-yoon, every season is a challenge. The reason Jung Ji-yoon is scary is that he is not yet a complete player. He is a lumber that will grow scarier. Knowing that he has offensive power that can shake the league, and that his willpower is extraordinary, I believe that his receiving, which is currently lacking, will rise to a high level someday.
