What’s wrong with Blizzard: ‘Two errors to a run, three errors to a run’ as Toronto falls into a five-game losing streak
The Toronto Blue Jays dropped a 6-4 decision to the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday (April 23) at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Starting on the first day of a four-game road trip, Chris Bassitt took the loss after allowing six runs (two earned) on seven hits (three home runs) 스포츠토토 with four walks and one strikeout in 6 1/3 innings.
An unfortunate error followed. In the bottom of the second inning, with the score tied at 0-0, Toronto starter Bassitt gave up a double to Randy Arozarena. He then got Isaac Paredes to fly out to center field and Josh Lowe to strike out to end the threat.
Bassett then walked Christian Betancourt on an error by the first baseman. Betancourt hit a ball that appeared to be headed toward center field, but second baseman Whit Merrifield made a good catch and threw to first. However, first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. missed the ball. The runner was safe.
In the meantime, Arozarena crossed home plate. Toronto’s first run. An error with two outs led to a run. Bassett then threw a wild pitch, allowing Betancourt to advance to second. Unable to get Betancourt out of the inning, Bassett gave up a two-run homer to Josh Siri. An error by Guerrero Jr. led to three unearned runs.
Another error in the third inning. Bassett walked the first batter, Yandy Diaz, and Wander Franco reached on an error. Guerrero Jr. reached on another error. With runners on first and second, Bassett got Brandon Lowe and Arozarena to fly out to center field, but gave up an RBI single to Paredes to extend the lead to 4-0.
Toronto rallied with a two-run homer by Merrifield in the top of the fourth, but Bassett gave up a solo shot to Arozarena in the sixth and a solo shot to Luke Reilly in the seventh. In the top of the ninth, Dolton Bashaw hit a solo home run to put runners on first and second. Brandon Belt followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to two runs, but it was not enough.
